1. Which Papaya POS program should I select?

Mini offers everything that you need to serve your customers and process bills directly in the application on your tablet or smartphone. It is perfectly sufficient for small outlets that do not require inventory tracking, employee supervision or detailed sales dashboards – e.g. food stands or small coffee shops.

In addition to the POS solution on your tablet ProOne includes also web administration access via internet browser. Web administration enables you to manage your business’ settings (offer, recipes, order tickets, bill design); manage inventories (supplies acceptance, stock levels overview, stocktaking) or access sales dashboards (for a particular time period, per employee, per sales item). Pro One thus offers a full-fledged alternative to classical POS systems and is suitable for small and medium businesses that only need a single POS touchscreen.

ProPlus offers everything included in Pro One, however, it allows you to use multiple POS devices at the same time. Pro Plus is the best option in case your outlet requires multiple static tills or if you want to equip your waiters with their own mobile POS device – all of them can have their own smartphone or a small tablet with Papaya in order to be able to take orders directly at your guests’ tables.

2. What do I need to be able to start using Papaya?
In the simplest case you’ll be fine with:
  • A mobile device (tablet / smartphone) to be able to process bills
  • A printer to print customer receipts
Bigger outlets are likely to require also:
  • One or more additional printers for order printing (at the bar, in kitchen)
  • Multiple mobile devices (tablets / smartphones), in case multiple static tills or “mobile waiter” devices are needed
  • Multiple printers for customer receipts

Some businesses – especially in case of over-the-counter sales – may also require a cash drawer or a bar code scanner.

3. Can I use my own tablet / smartphone?
If you already have a mobile device (tablet / smartphone) available, you can use it in case it operates on Android 4.0 or a higher version.
4. Can I keep my old printer?
You may keep your old printer – for printing of customer receipts or order tickets – only if you can find it on the list of supported HW, otherwise it will not work with Papaya.
5. Do I need to have internet connection?

Papaya POS Mini does not require internet. Internet is required for versions Pro One and Pro Plus – either in form of a LAN network or data services of one of the mobile network operators. Nevertheless, in both versions, Papaya will work also in case of temporary disconnection – all data will be synchronized with the cloud data warehouse once your internet connection is up again. There’s no need to worry about operations breakdowns or data loss.

6. What does “web administration” stand for?
Web administration of your business means that you are able to access it from anywhere, provided internet connection is available. All you need is any type of a computer, smartphone or tablet. Log into your account using a web browser and typing in the user name and password of your choice, and you will immediately be able to access:
  • “Live” information about your business (all bills, including those open at the moment)
  • Business settings (sales offer editing; employees’ user rights, etc.)
  • Inventory management (stock levels overview, recipe settings, supply acceptance, stocktakes)
  • Transparent dashboards (detailed sales overview – for a selected time period, by payment type, for individual sales items or per sales employee)
7. How do I set up Papaya?

“Installation” and the initial setup of Papaya POS is in most cases super easy. You can handle it all by yourself – we will send you all necessary information and in case of need, we are happy to support you over the phone to make sure everything runs smoothly.

If you opt for Pro Plus, installation ease will largely depend on your specific requirements. We will map those together upfront and afterwards, we will jointly choose the best way to set up Papaya to your full satisfaction.

8. How do I switch to Papaya from my old POS system?
If you have your sales offer as well as inventory lists available in form of a table (e.g. Microsoft Excel), we will help you import it into Papaya in order to make the transition as smooth as possible. All you need to do is contact us.
9. What if I need help?
Our Documentation includes detailed guidelines and explanations and it is likely that it will provide you with responses to most of the questions you may have. Should any of them still remain unanswered, you are welcome to contact us via email or over the phone and we will do everything within our powers to help you solve the problem at hand.
10. Do I have to pay any service fees?
Customer support via email or over the phone is freely available under your subscription’s monthly fee.

Android

Papaya works reliably on any touchscreen device with OS Android in version 4.0 or higher – whether it is a smartphone, tablet, or a large 15’’ professional display. Feel free to choose a device that suits your needs the best: large displays or 10’’ tablets work well as static tills placed on a bar or elsewhere; mobile ordering is best handled on smaller tablets or smartphones.

Devices that we have good experience with include:

Professional device with 15'' touchscreen suitable for larger restaurants. Resistive display responds to pressure and works even in contact with sticky or moist fingers.

Lenovo TAB 2 A7-10

Affordable tablet with 7’’ touchscreen suitable for small outlets or to be used for mobile ordering.

Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70

Tablet with 10’’ touchscreen; with a stand it is one of the best alternatives to a static till.

Lenovo Yoga tablet 2 (resp. 3)

Tablet with inbuilt stand with 7’’ (or 10’’) touchscreen, ideal for use as a static till for smaller outlets.

Sony Xperia Z2

Water and dust resistant smartphone with 5,2’’ touchscreen suitable for mobile ordering.

Stand Akasa Leo

Stable, simple affordable and good quality stand for tablets of any size, enables multiple standing positions.

Printers

You will need a printer to print customer receipts or order tickets for meals / drinks to be prepared in the kitchen or at the bar once waiters place guest orders onto the bill. Smaller outlets may be able to use the same printer for both customer receipt and order ticket printing, however, bigger restaurants are likely to require multiple printers installed at different places to serve a specific purpose in line with the outlet’s operations’ needs.

We recommend printers with a LAN or Bluetooth communication interface – for most businesses, USB connectivity is not likely to serve them well.

Printers that work with Papaya well include:

Customer receipt or order ticket printer suitable for businesses of any kind; longer service life. Available with LAN or USB connectivity.

Bixolon SPP - R200IIBK

To be available soon. Compact portable printer with Bluetooth connectivity. Suitable as a mobile customer receipt printer for waiters. When placed in proximity of the POS Android device used for ordering and receipt printing requests with which it communicate via Bluetooth, it may also be used a static printer.

Card payment terminal

As the use of card payment terminal is autonomous from Papaya, you can choose any device that suits your needs. In Papaya POS, you will solely select card payment as the payment method when closing the bill. After that you enter the amount to be paid into the card payment terminal and proceed with the payment in a usual way.

Bar code scanner

In case your sales goods are marked with barcodes, you may use a scanner to put them on the bill instead of looking items up in the sales menu. You are free to use any scanner that has an interface enabling connectivity (USB, Bluetooth) with the tablet or smartphone on which you use Papaya.

Scale

If you offer goods that are weighed at sale, you should set pricing in the offer menu to units of weight (e.g. kg, g). You can weigh the goods using any scale of your choice – enter the measured weight into Papaya and the correct sales price will be calculated automatically.
